BETHALTO - Karl Kindt III, known as the "Knight for Hire," was dressed in shining armor Tuesday as he grimaced while telling a story to children in the Bethalto Public Library's summer reading program.

The knight told stories to the children who gathered at the Senior Citizens Building in Bethalto.

Kindt told the children about how people became knights and recounted stories with valuable lessons, such as how to channel their anger into a positive force.

Bethalto "King" Steve Bryant, known to villagers as Mayor Bryant, wielded a sword to perform the traditional ceremony of knighting Kindt before the children to welcome him to town.
